Persistence of the Spirit…

Persistence of Spirit….

The words ‘How long will you halt between two opinions?’ also struck me forcefully in my own experience and challenged me for a while until I had to come to admit to myself what I think we all sometimes try to deny there is no grey area or in-between medium. We are told “little children do not love in word or tongue but in deed and in truth” 1 John 3:18. Anyone who has ever been in love knows when you give yourself to someone in love you find it hard to hold anything back, thats why trust is such a serious issue in love, but that is a whole other debate. Why then however would we think this love for God thing would work differently? when dealing with our creator, the one who is the archetype for the greatest love of all???!

Yet we wander. We often fail or get disappointed. Yet we persist. We must try to find our own way. Its diabolical that this persistence does not extend to the interactions or experience with God. People often give up quite easily once there is a perceived ‘failure’ on God’s part in some thing.

But so clearly we are told our own purposeful, prosperous path was already drawn out for us by a loving, all-powerful, all-seeing God. (Jeremiah29:11 “…For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Instead have you never found by these wanderings we end up making our straight paths crooked and then need help to come guide us out of the maze created?

Praise God that is not the end though! “He is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them” Hebrews 7: 25. ALWAYS,  there is that persistence, No real love without persistence…

May God grant you courage, grace and strength as you seek to “lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us…and run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…” (Hebrews 12: 1-2) “…Hold unswervingly to the hope we’ve professed” Why you may ask? The answer is beautiful and heartening in its simplicity “For he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23)

How many of us can state that unequivocally about the romantic or even platonic relationship ‘loves’ in our life that we currently spend so much energy pursuing and maintaining???! Its a sad reality in this era of our world Faithfulness is not often one of those ‘valued assets’…But thats a whole other discussion for another day…

Yours in the journey

Twilight…

A friend in need is a friend indeed!

Have you ever come to that point where you begin to question every decision you have ever made and every ‘friendship’ that you had ever thought you had?

In light of recent events that have shocked so many (the apparent suicide of Robin Williams) and brought to the forefront discussions on often uncomfortable topics I thought to address what makes a real, unshakeable foundation of support for those in need.

“In every life a little rain must fall, some days must be dark and dreary” -Longfellow

There is a saying that a journey of a thousand miles starts with a step. So, to be as upfront as possible by way of introduction, I will share  that I have a habit of narrating things in my head on a regular basis. It may be the writer and dramatist in me or I could just be certifiable… Continue reading The first step…
